  • Destination
A city to be discovered — and rediscovered — Krakow has emerged from a tumultuous past into a major economic and education center. Doubling in population since the end of World War II, it’s home to more than 50 multinational corporations and 20 higher education institutions such as the oldest university in Poland, Jagiellonian University, and the prestigious Academy of Music. Notable distinctions include the 2000 European Capital of Culture and the 2013 UNESCSO City of Literature.

Krakow’s cultural heritage is extensive, and tourists gather in numbers to see its historical monuments. Old Town, Wawel Castle and the Kazimierz district are UNESCO World Heritage sites. The busy market square, Rynek Glowny, is one of the largest in Europe and dates back to the 13th century. Just outside the city is the popular attraction of the Wieliczka Salt Mine, also a UNESCO World Heritage site.
